<h2>Pottsville Native Rachel Wallace Launches Campaign for Congress in PA-9, Vowing to Lower Costs and Tackle Health Care</h2>POTTSVILLE, PA—Today Rachel Wallace, a veteran public servant who was born and raised in Pottsville, officially announced her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District, challenging incumbent Dan Meuser. Wallace’s campaign will focus on lowering the cost of living, protecting access to affordable health care, and bringing people in the community together.&nbsp;“People are so frustrated with Congress and the state of politics today, and I have seen that up close and in person,” Wallace said. “This is my home, and I want to fight for my neighbors by putting the focus back on our local communities and the problems we face, from the high cost of groceries to our broken health care system. Dan Meuser has looked out for himself in Congress, and it’s past time we had someone looking out for us.”

She was the sixth of eight children: Bill Fleagle and wife, Cheryl, Schuylkill Haven, PA; Cindy Frost and husband, Dick, Liberty, ME; Glenn Fleagle, Phuket, Thailand; Mark “Mooker” Fleagle and wife, Colleen, Schuylkill Haven, PA; the late Scott Fleagle and his wife, Barbara Bainbridge, New Ringgold, PA; Marsha “Mush” Hepler and husband, Steve, Schuylkill Haven, PA; and Tom Fleagle, Centreville, MD.After graduating high school, Karen enrolled in nursing school at Reading Hospital and then earned her bachelor’s degree from Lebanon Valley College. She worked as a nurse in Alexandria, Virginia and then served as a missionary to deaf children in Haiti for two years. She moved home to Schuylkill Haven and, after meeting and marrying her husband, moved to Pottsville, where she lived for the rest of her life.She served her community as a nurse for 40 years, working in the Good Samaritan Hospital’s emergency room, radiology department, and intensive care unit. She finished her career in occupational health, retiring in 2022.A lifelong Christian, Karen was devoted to her faith and her church, the First United Methodist Church in Pottsville, where her husband is the pastor. She was a partner to her husband in his ministry at churches across Schuylkill County, including Welcome UMC in Landingville, Simpson UMC in Gordon, Salem UMC in Barry Township, and Evangelical UMC in Pottsville.Karen lived by the motto “seldom repress a generous impulse” and touched many people’s lives. She was there to help anyone who needed a friend, a ride, a car, a place to live, or even a kidney. She loved music, and played the piano and sang in the choir at every church where she was a member. She volunteered at York Terrace every week, playing hymns on the piano and singing with residents. Her homemade strawberry jelly was renowned and won prizes at the county fair. She was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, and loved walking her dogs in Baber Cemetery every day.The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Karen to the First United Methodist Church in Pottsville or the Pottsville Area High School Marching Band - Pottsville Crimson Aides Band Boosters, 16th and Elk Avenues, Pottsville, PA, 17901.

Wallace’s roots in the district run deep. A 9th-generation Pennsylvanian and the daughter of a nurse and a pastor, she grew up in Pottsville and graduated from Pottsville Area High School.&nbsp; An early job working for former Congressman Tim Holden led to a career in public service in the U.S. Senate, at the State Department, and in the White House Office of Management and Budget, where she served as chief of staff.Wallace’s campaign will also focus on the need for funding for fire companies, health clinics, and community projects. <h2>Campaign Manager</h2>The Wallace for Congress campaign is seeking a Campaign Manager for the 2026 cycle.The Campaign Manager will serve as the senior staff member responsible for the overall operations, strategy, and execution of <a href="http://www.wallaceforcongress.com" style="color: var(--color-text-accent-secondary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text-accent-secondary);">Wallace for Congress</a>. This role requires an experienced manager capable of leading an effort from the ground up to secure a victory. The Campaign Manager will work directly with the candidate, ensuring all campaign functions such as strategy, fundraising, field, and communications are integrated and aligned with the campaign's strategic goals.<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3><h3>Strategic Leadership &amp; Management</h3><ul><li>Develop and Execute the Campaign Plan: Lead the design, implementation, and continual evaluation of a comprehensive, data-driven campaign plan that outlines efforts through Election Day in all areas of the campaign (Finance, Communications, Field, Digital, and Operations).</li><li>Team Management &amp; Culture: Oversee all day-to-day operations, including the hiring, training, and management of staff, consultants, interns, and volunteers. <h5>Congressional stock trading ban</h5>Our Congressman’s stock portfolio has outperformed Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. But members of Congress shouldn’t be getting rich off inside information. Rachel supports a ban on members of Congress trading individual stocks, as well as their spouses.&nbsp; <h5>Term limits</h5>Rachel supports term limits in Congress. She supports a 6-term, 12-year limit for members of Congress.&nbsp; <h5>Money in politics</h5>Rachel will vote to overturn Citizens United and stop the unlimited dark money from ruining our politics.&nbsp; <h5>Getting Congress back to work</h5>Rachel supports bipartisan efforts for Congress to do its job as a co-equal branch of government. That means passing federal budgets on time, keeping the government open, and taking the hard votes to authorize any wars that put our troops in harms’ way.&nbsp;

We'll kick off our canvass at 2PM at the Williamsport Rising office located in the Pajama Factory, and then reconvene at 5 PM to collect everyone’s petition signatures and hang out for beer and pizza.

<h5>AI data centers</h5>Decisions on new AI data centers in our part of PA belong in local hands. Rachel supports transparency and local control when it comes to AI data centers being built in Pennsylvania. She will oppose efforts to establish national permitting laws for these centers and support legislation to ensure local union workers are hired for any data centers that local communities OK to be built.&nbsp;<h5>Fire company funding</h5>The cost of equipment for fire fighters has skyrocketed. Rachel will propose legislation to create funding to help volunteer fire companies buy new equipment, similar to an already-existing federal program for local police forces. She will also hold private equity firms that are consolidating this industry accountable. <h5>Unsafe roads</h5>Driving at night, especially in rural Pennsylvania, can be dangerous because of how bright car headlights are. Rachel will work in Congress to ban dangerously bright vehicle headlights to reduce glare and improve road safety for drivers.&nbsp; <h5>Federal investments</h5>Rachel will work to bring our federal taxpayer dollars back home to tackle local infrastructure, including bridges, roads, and water and sewer improvements.&nbsp; <h5>Quality of life</h5>Our part of Pennsylvania has many stories of outside corporations coming in to extract our resources, only to lower our quality of life and leave local communities holding the bag. Rachel will always stand with local communities in holding these corporations accountable and preserving our beautiful way of life in Pennsylvania.

<h5>Health care</h5><h4>Rachel will focus on lowering the cost of health care, making it less complicated, and holding insurance companies accountable for high costs. She will:</h4><ul><li>Reverse the historic cuts to health care Congress voted for in 2025.</li><li>Ban prior authorization by insurance companies so they can no longer deny doctor-prescribed care.</li><li>Cap the amount of money from premium payments that can go toward insurance company executive salaries.</li><li>Address rampant consolidation in the health care industry that drives up prices, squashes competition, and hurts working people.</li></ul><h5>Jobs</h5><h4>Rachel comes from a strong union family and knows that our part of Pennsylvania needs more stable, good-paying jobs so people can live and raise a family here. She will:</h4><ul><li>Fight for funding for trade and technical schools and promote shop class in high school.&nbsp;</li><li>Fight for working people to have the ability to form a union and advocate for better working conditions. Defend the <a href="https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/WHD/legacy/files/dbra.pdf">Davis-Bacon Act</a> against attacks on prevailing wages. Support project labor agreements to ensure that union workers aren’t undercut</li><li>Make it easier for people to go to school while working, whether it’s for cosmetology, welding, or health care.&nbsp;</li><li>Support and invest in small business owners that are part of our communities.</li></ul><h5>Our farmers</h5><h4>Rachel will fight for our farmers, especially family farms that are struggling to stay afloat. She supports long-term solutions that remove obstacles for farmers and make it possible for them to compete. Rachel will:</h4><ul><li>Support legislation that tackles the cost of living and inflation&nbsp;</li><li>Fight monopolies in industries like fertilizer, seeds, and meatpacking.</li><li>Protect small and mid-sized farmers from multinational corporations trying to buy our land and resources.</li><li>Make it easier for farmers to work on their own equipment by supporting Right to Repair laws.&nbsp;</li><li>Update outdated laws that keep farmers from being competitive and profitable.&nbsp; </li></ul><h5>Housing</h5><h4>Our part of Pennsylvania needs more affordable housing for working families. Rachel will vote to:&nbsp;</h4><ul><li>Establish a new first-time homebuyer credit and a starter home construction credit.</li><li>Hold absentee landlords accountable and fight blight.&nbsp;</li></ul>
